Bum Interviews
The Conor Timmis Interview In 2006, actor and Boris Karloff fan CONOR TIMMIS got the idea to produce his own screen test for Universal Studios' biopic of the legendary horror star. The fact that no such picture is currently in the works was of little concern. Besides serving as a devoted fan's tribute to Boris, Timmis' screen test-slash-documentary KREATING KARLOFF was intended to give the studio that produced FRANKENSTEIN and THE MUMMY something to think about while giving us some interesting reenactments of certain scenes from those films.
Conor recently took a wrong turn and found himself in the spacious and elegantly appointed BumsCorner offices. Before he could make his escape, we blocked the door and promised to release him as soon as he answered a few questions for us. Here, then, are the results of that historic encounter... Read more... Updated Tuesday, December 09, 2008 | | The Toni Harman and Alex Wakeford Interview The recent British fright flick CREDO (soon to be released by Lionsgate as THE DEVIL'S CURSE in the U.S.) is a dark and very creepy supernatural horror film that suggests more than it shows and uses sound design to chilling effect.
BumsCorner recently caught up with producer-director Toni Harman and producer, writer, and cinematographer Alex Wakeford and asked them some dark and very creepy questions about it. Their answers were chilling... Read more... Updated Saturday, November 11, 2000 | | The Monique Dupree Interview What's cooler than finding a warm $20 in the dryer? Why, spending some quality time with Monique Dupree, the first black Scream Queen, that's what! Monique took a few minutes out of her busy schedule to chill at BumsCorner and talk about stuff near and dear to our hearts. Like booze and nipples for instance. Read more... Updated Tuesday, February 29, 2000 | | The Eric Stanze Interview
 | | | Eric Stanze is the Top Dog of leading independent motion picture production company Wicked Pixel Cinema . Stanze is an award-winning and critically-acclaimed producer, director, writer, and editor of multiple feature length independent movies, all currently in world-wide home video release.
Stanze has also shot, produced, and/or edited educational videos, short films, documentaries, and music videos. He has provided voice over work for various radio commercials and independent movies. He has been a special effects creator for various independent films. He is also an actor in various indie features.
Eric Stanze began producing/directing low budget movies for the direct-to-video market in 1990 (he was only 18 years old at that time). Despite his "Roger Corman" attitudes and techniques, Stanze slowly started becoming a standout name in the indie/horror arena. Gory and hallucinogenic b-movies THE SCARE GAME, THE FINE ART, and SAVAGE HARVEST were directed by a young Eric Stanze. These titles set the foundation that Wicked Pixel Cinema would be built upon. | Marilyn and Calico
| | If you're a Howdy Doody fan, you might know her better as Marilyn Patch, who played Doodyville schoolteacher "Happy Harmony" on "The New Howdy Doody Show" for 130 episodes back in '76. Dr. Marilyn Arnone has been doing her part to educate kids in entertaining ways ever since she hosted her own children's show called "Marilyn and Calico" at the age of eleven. (Hmm...I think I built a birdhouse out of a milk carton when I was eleven. But then I blew it up with some firecrackers.) Read more... Updated Sunday, September 23, 2007 | | The Ted Newsom Interview Ted Newsom is a showbiz powerhouse--just check out his extensive credits on IMDb sometime--and to describe him requires scads of hyphens to separate words like producer, writer, director, and actor. He's worked with some of the greatest names in the horror/sci-fi genre, and his latest films include titles such as THE NAKED MONSTER and WHISPERS FROM A SHALLOW GRAVE.
With all this to his credit, I decided to interview him about his appearance as an extra in an episode of the Saturday morning TV series "Jason of Star Command" back in 1978, because I just watched and reviewed the entire series on DVD and there are certain things that I just "gots to know." Ted, being the gentleman that he is, asked, "You're who, now?" and then graciously offered his recollections of this and numerous other fascinating experiences for us to enjoy. Why, I remember it as though it were only yesterday... Read more... | Scraps, Joe and Dixon at Cinema Wasteland
| | On my last trip to Cinema Wasteland, I had an opportunity to check out "The Horror Convention Massacre" from Old School Sinema. The director Joe Ostrica ran into us at the bar, we acted stupid, and some time later I asked him some questions about his flick, movies in general, and of course...bi-sexual drunk chicks. Updated Thursday, September 14, 2006 | | The Mike Conway Interview, part 2 In part one of our interview, jack-of-all-trades indie filmmaker MIKE CONWAY filled us in on the making of his sci-fi film, TERRARIUM (aka WAR OF THE PLANETS). This time, we get to find out what went on behind the scenes of his latest production about a genetically-engineered superwoman gone nuts, THE AWAKENING, which cost roughly one-fifth of the budget it took to film TERRARIUM while surpassing it in just about every way. How does this low-budget auteur do it? Let's find out! Read more... Updated Saturday, June 03, 2006 | | The Mike Conway Interview, part 1 His backyard is an alien landscape where you might find a crashed spaceship. His garage is the nerve center for genetic experiments and sinister government conspiracies. He's independent filmmaker MIKE CONWAY, and the world is his soundstage.
Director, screenwriter, actor, editor, composer--Mike does it all, with the help of a dedicated stock company of friends and family caught up in his infectious enthusiasm for making movies. And he does it with less money than most directors spend on coffee and doughnuts.
I recently got Mike to stand still long enough to tell us a little about, among other things, the making of the sci-fi/horror thriller TERRARIUM (reviewed here as WAR OF THE PLANETS) and his latest low-budget epic THE AWAKENING. Updated Saturday, May 13, 2006 | | The Eliza Swenson Interview So today I have the pleasure of interviewing composer, model, and most importantly for us actress Eliza Swenson. I try to clean up some of the beer bottles around the office, but the trash can only holds so much. Before I can really start to worry if the car freshener hanging from my desk lamp will mask the pungent smell coming from the trash, in walks Eliza. Read more... Updated Wednesday, May 10, 2006 | | The Allen Wilbanks Interview What--filmmakers are real people? That's what I was reminded of when I got an email from Allen Wilbanks, the writer-director of MOTOR HOME MASSACRE, a new release that I pretty much panned recently. Allen didn't want to argue, trade insults, or otherwise engage in anything other than a friendly conversation about his movie and what I found wrong with it. He even asked me for my thoughts on how he could have made it better! (What the heck do I know about making movies? I just watch 'em!) Read more... Updated Thursday, April 27, 2006 | | The Ethan Zohn Interview I recently had the unique pleasure of interviewing Ethan Zohn, of "Survivor" and "The Scorned" fame.
