When a DVD called FREAK FORUM: THE VIDCASTS, VOL.1 came across my desk recently, I thought to myself, "Hey, wait a minute...I don't have a desk." Then I watched the DVD. Then I thought to myself, "Hey, if I had a desk, I could throw it through my TV screen."

If you're a fan of New Jersey's Henrique Couto, and you watch the videos on his MySpace page and listen to his podcasts, you'll probably like this DVD because it features 10 of his videos, three of his friends' videos, and an hour or so of his podcast show. If you aren't a fan, then get ready to become one! Just kidding. No, seriously, you might like this stuff, but I didn't get a thing out of it.

Henrique is more of a hyperactive chatterbox than a comedian--his riffs on various subjects are like listening to a guy on speed who won't shut up. The videos resemble something one of your friends would shoot with his new camcorder and then say "You gotta see this, it's hilarious" and you'd watch it and say "Yeah, that's some funny shit, man" and he'd say "I've got nine more, you wanna see 'em?" and you'd say "No."

"Sleepover Show!!!" is Henrique wandering around the house alone while aiming the camera at himself. For awhile we get to watch him make some Jiffy-Pop popcorn while attempting to keep up a humorous commentary. Where has this stuff been all my life? "WickedFaire Parts 1 & 2" features Henrique's interviews with people at a renaissance fair, which would be awesome if he'd remembered to point his microphone at them while they were talking. "WickedFaire Lingerie Party" has three girls in lingerie show up at his house ready to party. What does he do? He orders pizza and plays board games with 'em! Betcha didn't see that coming.

"Cage Faced Girl" is pretty good because it's got Cage Faced Girl in it. "Vortex 'Healing'" is Henrique's 15-minute interview with a vortex healer, which just doesn't go anywhere at all--even the closing title admits, "Yeah...lame." If I had to choose a favorite, it would be "The Dominatrix Beatdown (Passion of the Henrique)" which features Henrique getting the crap beaten out of him by a homely dominatrix at a convention. I mean, he's really in pain. And you will be too, after hearing him try to ad-lib his way through it amidst yelps of agony.

The enclosed CD containing an hour or so of the weekly Freak Forum podcast is okay if you put it on in the background and forget it's on. Aside from a couple of pretty good songs here and there, it's mainly the kind of mindless chatter that stoners indulge in while thinking "Oh man, this shit rocks! We oughtta have our own show!"
