Another dreary day filled with so much rain it makes me depressed. This movie was so god damn boring I couldn't believe it. I thought since it was themed after the hit movie "Saw" it would have to be half decent but I sure was wrong.
The Puppetmaster has placed several captives in his homemade tomb and slowly decides the fate of each one. There is to be only one winner in his game and you wonder why would someone who intended to make a great thriller of a movie even release this disaster.
Slowly you see each soon-to-be victim with a toe tag that states a certain date & they wrack their brains to figure out what they were doing on that day,as it gives a clue to what and who they are dealing with. I had more fun watching this and looking at the demented toys and objects that were planted all over the place. I was playing the seek game where you would see how many items you could find spread about inside this tomb like that kid's magazine "Highlights for Children” where you circle the items you find off a list.
I have personally never read any of HP Lovecraft’s stories so I had no inkling of what the clues were. I have heard nothing but praise at his work so I couldn't fathom how this story was so blah. Anytime I ask someone to recommend a good read they almost always point me in his direction and after seeing this flop of a flick I don't know if I even want to sample it. I know sometimes it is hard to place a story on film and make it convincing enough for the viewer to handle but this storyline was already a copycat of sorts so how did it not shine?
Maybe if I knew some of the clues or characters from Lovecraft’s books I could have played detective but something tells me I don't think anything could have livened this baby up. To have it take place in this warehouse made into a tomb with a bunch of misfit devilish toys and coffins with symbols on them and to not even be able to produce a shiver that's gotta say something here. To all you HP Lovecraft fans out there enter this movie with caution; it might be a very disappointing experience for you.
