Top 10 Party Schools Volume 1

After a couple of viewings of “Top 10 Party Schools Volume 1”, I have come to a few conclusions:

1) There is no such thing as “too many scenes of girls kissing”
2) College age kids will do anything to get on camera
3) The bars I frequent suck!

“Top 10” is sort of a collegiate spin on the critically acclaimed “Girls Gone Wild” dynasty. We have the required footage for success:

-Girl on girl kissing
-Girls pulling their shirts up
-Girls pulling their pants down so you can see their thongs
-Girls doing shots off each other’s bodies

But with the addition of:

-Girls and guys chugging massive amounts of alcohol
-Pudding wrestling
-Keg stands
-Groups of coeds yelling “GO <insert team="team" mascot="mascot" here="here">!!”

Awesome!

Yet somehow…not so awesome.

Much like Jaeger shots, too much of a good thing can be a bad thing.

This series has a LOT of potential, abut this first volume leaves something to be desired.

There’s no subtle nuances to debate here, or even a plotline to follow…it’s just scene after scene of the camera crew capturing coeds acting like, well, like they have all the alcohol they can handle and not a single inhibition. It’s fun to watch, but in short bursts only. Since the DVD flows from one bar to the next, they all start to look the same after a while. With some breaks in the debauchery with footage of the schools and background information, this could have been terrific, but after the first 20 non-stop minutes, it began to drag.

It was like being at a frat party too long, what was fun in the beginning of the night loses it’s appeal as the evening progresses.

It’s a fun movie though, don’t get me wrong. Again…as a guy, I don’t need to know the events that lead up to two girls swapping spit, I’m all for cutting to the chase! And I’ll probably pick up subsequent volumes in the off chance that I’ve been to some of the locales. As long as you’re not setting your expectations high, this is bound to please.

“Top 10” warrants 2 ½ cans out of 5 on its own merits. It’s worth a viewing, and with a retail of $12.99 it’s hard to go wrong…but with a few tweaks, this series could become a classic must-have library for party animals around the world. Here’s Scraps’ recommendations for future volumes:

- Themed volumes, like “Top 10 Midwest” or “Top 10 East Coast”
- Bloopers/outtakes – personally, I would pay a premium for some additional footage. With the amount of film they would have had to take, I’m sure there were some accidental “wardrobe malfunctions”, people getting hurt, and some serious ralphing. Show me the bad stuff, that’s where the comedy lives!
- Background information about the schools at the beginning of each segment.

The DVD is fun, and for what it is, it lives up to its role. With some additional post-production editing and beefing up the DVD content though, this could be an outstanding series.

My 2 ½ can score means it warrants a viewing, and leaves plenty of room for improvement.
