This movie is exactly the same as every other chick flick I have ever seen. Only supersized. Somehow, they managed to fit two love stories into one movie. First, we have the dorky wallflower character miraculously get the woman of his dreams to notice him, only to go on and lose her, only to win her back again. At the same exact time, the cool, witty character goes on to finally fall in love, only to lose her, and then win her back again. Honestly, all jokes aside, I have a lot of respect for what Andy Tennant pulled off here. It was an interesting tapestry. Andy Tennant you will not remember, from such films as Sweet Home Alabama and Ever After. Only a man of such great ambiguity could pull of this trash.
Will Smith, as ever, is charming. He plays the so-called Date Doctor, which has become an urban legend in New York. He helps men snag the women of their dreams. An unusually funny Kevin James hires him. He has fallen in love with a celebrity. A model no less. He hires Smith to help him get her. Against all odds, James actually gets her. Along the way Smith falls in love with a gossip columnist that is covering her. The gossip columnist, the ever-spectacular Eva Mendes, cannot resist a good story like uncovering who the real Date Doctor is. Eventually she discovers the true identity, and blows his cover on the cover of her magazine. Thus ending James relationship in the process. The women go on to realize the guys had good intentions and they all live happily ever after. Pathetic really.
Fortunately, I am a man. I cannot view this movie through a woman’s eyes and say glowing things about it. I can tell you my wife loved it. I thought it was quite boring with some occasional humor. For me to enjoy a chick flick it has to be something odd, like 50 First Dates or Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. This old school, rehashed plot trash is worthless to me
